Thanks much for letting everyone know about the snafu. Am sure that a lot of people will want to try the service out, as DSL in our area pretty much tops out around 6.0 MBps.

Unlike much of the rest of the country, AT&T refuses to roll-out FiOS or Fiber To The Home (FTTH) locally, and won't even upgrade the local DSLAM to handle ADSL2, which would provide much, much faster speeds than anyone is currently seeing locally using DSL technology.

Insofar as residential service goes, SuddenLink definitely has the fastest maximum upload/download speeds available of any fiber or wireline carrier we know of in the area.

Our apologies for the confusion. We discovered an error in our order-entry system that prevented the reps with whom you were corresponding from seeing the availability of this service. I'm told that error has now been corrected and that all reps should be able to see confirmation that this service is, in fact, available in Humboldt County.

Interesting. We were told that by at least three different sources at SuddenLink customer service. We went out of our way to point out our close proximity to SuddenLink's office/headend as well as referencing the article from yesterday's Times-Standard. They were quite certain that it was not available "in my area".

First aid for dogs, just like first aid for humans, is an effective combination of knowledge, supplies and skills, put into action for the benefit of your four-legged friend. Visit www.dog-first-aid-101.com

Things here are pretty much under control. Although we have several TV channels in the area, only a single channel broadcasts local news, and I just happened to miss their newscast tonight. You can find a list of local stations on our sister website at http://humboldtonline.com/hdtv/ .

The latest press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office and the Office of Emergency Services (OES) reports no deaths or injuries. There is supposedly a large crack in the parking lot of the local shopping mall though. We will launch an in-depth investigation into the entire "crack" incident on Sunday. Stay tuned!

This is still very sicking. Every day I see that family and they want forgiveness. How disgusting. How can the small children in that family ever want to me around those people. What if they do it again. Once a killer always a killer. May the creator serve justice if the court does not. Karma kills.

This person was not Hoopa and does not represent Hoopa. He had kids with a Hoopa woman and lived there for the past 7 years. Its sad that he would bring the community down and I hope he and his girlfriend get the rehab they need from each other, drugs and sexual premiscuality.

This is indeed a sad end to the life of the largest (permanent) music venue in Northern California. Konocti attracted quite a few performers that simply would never consider playing the smaller venues we have in Humboldt, Trinity, Mendocino, Del Norte and Lake counties. I fondly remember my first concert experience there several years ago, seeing Sammy Hagar and the Waboritas. Were it not for Konocti, the nearest place to see Sammy would have been Portland or someplace in the San Francisco Bay Area. Just as the loss of The Eureka Inn was a huge blow to the City of Eureka, the loss of Konocti will be a huge loss to all music fans in Northern California.
