Denton, Texas, band Midlake has been at once compared to both Radiohead and Jethro Tull. Conversely, in the recording studio, Midlake is trying to emulate a tone similar to early ‘70s-era King Crimson, which bass player Paul Alexander says is the best recorded sound in rock history.
Midlake will be in Arcata on Friday, March 5, at the HSU Depot with Matthew and the Arrogant Sea at 9 p.m. Tickets are $5 general admission and $2 for current HSU students with a student ID.

LumberjackThirty minutes before the tsunami was supposed to hit, cars parked on the bluffs behind the Trinidad Head Lighthouse. People set up lawn chairs and picnics and squeezed in for the best view of the shore. The ironic side effect of the tsunami alert system was apparent; people flocked to the coast, rather than away from it.

ARCATA – Two Humboldt State University professors team up with Communication students to put the Internet on trial in a debate on March 3, 2009 in the bottom of the J, on HSU campus, at 5:30pm.
The jury – you.
The debate will center on whether the internet has improved or diminished our quality of life.
Marcy Burstiner, Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, with over ten years of experience as a business news journalist, is debating Associate Professor Eric Van Duzer who has spoken on behalf of retaining the Applied Technology Department at HSU.
The two student debaters are: Krystina Thurin, who has been in debate for over three years and technology activist Ian Sidle, a Communication major who thrives on internet technology.
The Internet is a relatively new invention in the history of human beings, but much like fire, it has the potential to be abused as easily as it is used to improve life.
This event is being put on by the Communication Department’s Capstone class, sponsored by the Communication Club and HSU Housing.
Snacks will be provided.
