<p>This stirring of downtown&#8217;s dioxin stew comes at a time when property owner Security National is <a href="http://humboldtherald.wordpress.com/2010/03/23/creg-security-national-is-stonewalling/">stonewalling the Coastal Commission</a> over the property, and Humboldt County residents debate the <a href="http://humboldtherald.wordpress.com/2009/11/22/larry-glass-vindicated/">danger of moving toxins around the property</a> before full characterization of the site.</p>

For decades, maybe a hundred years, the sturdy, nondescript building stood straddling Janes Creek, for most of its life playing a role in the Arcata Bottom’s booming dairy industry.<br />

Smith River Elementary School is raising money to help send Chilean children back to school after an 8.8-magnitude earthquake devastated much of the South American country Feb. 27.</p>
<p>It is estimated that more than 1 million children can&rsquo;t attend classes because schools were so badly damaged by the earthquake.</p>
<p>All money raised will go to schools and educating children in Chile.
