CHP officer challenges incumbent for sheriff [Daily Triplicate]
Two longtime Del Norte County residents are running for Sheriff/Coroner in the June 8 election.
Incumbent Dean Wilson has lived in Del Norte County for 41 years, and has held the office of sheriff/coroner since 2002. He faces a challenge from Brian Clemann, a current California Highway Patrol officer and former Sheriff’s Office deputy, who was born in Crescent City and has been a lifelong county resident.
A pedestrian was killed in downtown Guerneville Thursday night after being hit by a white van. The collision was called into dispatchers at 8:19 p.m. near the intersection of Church and Main streets. CHP officers who responded to the accident said the victim was a man in his 50s. He apparently was struck while in or near a crosswalk.

A big rig carrying frozen food bound for deliveries in Humboldt County crashed early Monday, blocking Highway 101 near Leggett, the CHP reported. The rig fell onto its side in the northbound lanes, blocking the highway. The crash was near Leggett and Standish Hickey State Park.
