Riverboat gambling was part of secret development plan in Yurok leader’s campaign
During his bid to become chairman of the Yurok Tribal Council last
year, Thomas P. O’Rourke carried around a binder, but he kept its
contents secret.
He took it with him while campaigning through the various tribal districts and held it up as a prop during his speeches.
Inside that binder, he told his constituents, was economic
salvation, not only for the Yurok Tribe — California’s largest and one
of its poorest — but for its members as well.

EUREKA – With more than 100 people who turned out in support, attorney Allison Jackson formally kicked off her campaign in Eureka Saturday afternoon to be the next Humboldt County District Attorney.
Campaign chairman Ron Pierre said the district attorney position is the most important in the county and called for strong leadership in that post.

Rumors about CAMP helicopters were flying thick and fast today. I saw one about 12:45 over Redway. Emerald Triangle saw one leaving Ukiah. One rumor said there was pot carried in bags slung underneath. I thought I’d put up a place for people to post what they saw and heard.

Assemblyman Wesley Chesbro will be firing up his campaign machine to face a challenge from local Tea Party representative Karen Brooks, according to today’s Times-Standard.
Brooks took part in protests against Health Care reform last July in front of Congressman Mike Thompson’s Eureka office. She also traveled to Sacramento in August for a Tea Party protest.
The First Assembly District is comprised of Del Norte, Humboldt, Trinity, Lake, Mendocino, and Sonoma counties.
