Times-Standard – Cloney’s Pharmacy in Eureka was the target of an armed robbery this morning – for the second time within a week. A white male in his 20s reportedly robbed the Harrison Street store at about 9:30 a.m. today with a black handgun.

Horizon Air Offers One-Day Discount Fare To Humboldt County

Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines announce today’s “National Parks Mystery Discount” cities are Arcata/Eureka, Calif. (Redwood) and Mammoth and Fresno, Calif. (both for Yosemite).

Here’s how it works:

  • Each day, from April 5 through April 9, 2010, fares to two or more national park gateway cities will be discounted 15 percent for ticket purchases made within 24 hours of when the discount is offered.
  • New featured cities will be revealed daily at 12:01 a.m. Pacific time each day from April 5 through April 9, 2010, at horizonair.com/parks and alaskaair.com/parks, and will be available for the next 24 hours.

“Horizon Air’s limited-time special discounts will encourage folks to experience the natural treasures of national parks on our route system,” said Dan Russo, Horizon Air’s vice president of marketing and communications. “With just 24 hours to act on http://horizonair.com/parks or http://alaskaair.com/parks, travelers shouldn’t hesitate to grab one of these great deals.”

Today’s mystery sale discounts are valid for travel between April 16 and June 13, 2010.

Horizon serves 48 cities throughout Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Baja California Sur (Mexico), and British Columbia and Alberta (Canada). Together, Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines serve more than 90 cities and are subsidiaries of Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK).

Sheriff’s Office Seeks State Grant For 4×4 Patrols

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is in the process of applying for grant funding through the California State Parks Off-Highway Motor Vehicle (OHMV) program.

Funds from the OHMV grant support the efforts of Sheriff’s Office’s Beach Deputies whose duties include enforcement of state laws, federal regulations, and Humboldt County Beach Ordinances. Beach Deputies also assist with visitor safety and search and rescue efforts. Additionally, the Beach Deputies provide law enforcement information and education regarding environmental issues and conservation concerns about the county’s beaches and dunes. The Beach Deputies work closely with volunteer organizations that are concerned with off-highway vehicle usage.

Beginning yesterday, Wednesday, March 3, 2010 through Thursday, April 1, 2010, a draft of the grant application will be available for viewing and public comment at www.ohv.parks.ca.gov. From that website, the public will be directed to the Grants/On-Line Grant Application (OLGA) public review feature for instructions on how to submit their comments. 3.9 Earthquake Hits Humboldt This Morning

03-04-2010-earthquakeA Magnitude 3.9 earthquake rolled through Humboldt County at 4:22 a.m. The epicenter was 35 miles West of Petrolia, California, at a depth of 6.8 miles. No immediate damage or injuries were reported. It was not felt at all at our offices in Eureka.

6.0 Quake Hits Area Today

Thursday, February 4, 2010, Eureka, Calif. (HumboldtOnline) – A 6.0 magnitude earthquake hit the area at approximately 12:20 p.m. today, according to the USGS. The quake was centered in the Pacific Ocean almost due West of Petrolia. No damage has been reported thus far. The earthquake was very brief in duration and was barely felt in the city of Eureka. The exact time/location was 40.43°N 124.93°W and at a depth: 11km. The last major quake to hit the area last month was in roughly the same (but not exactly the same) area, at a depth of 10KM. The quake that hit Haiti shortly thereafter was also recorded at a depth of 10KM, spurring conspiracy theories that the two were actually somehow connected.
