“Really Good News”, Earthquake Here Won’t Have Any Effect On Snobs In Bay Area

nbc-fuNBC Bay Area
San Francisco’s NBC-TV affiliate reminds the residents of Humboldt County just how lucky we are to “only” have a 6.5 quake. After all, we could be in Haiti! Calls earthquake in Humboldt County, “… a fairly gentle rolling quake“. Then, it lets readers know that the earthquake is of little consequence to their audience in the bay area, since… “And the really good news is that the movement off shore in Humboldt County does not increase risks of slips in the Hayward and San Andreas.”

I just wish there was some way we could send these elitist, big-city, self-centered snobs in the bay area media a “fairly gentle” reminder of the $14+ million in building damages we suffered, in addition to the loss of countless, priceless personal possessions, the numerous personal injuries that few of us had time to report to the “authorities” or the inability for many here to cook meals or heat their homes while power was being restored. And what about the family who lost their entire home due to their inability to afford earthquake insurance (can ANYONE in Humboldt County afford earthquake insurance?)? While I do feel sorry for the people of Haiti, reporters in the bay area might at least try to act a little more sympathetic about the plights of their neighbors to the North.
