A woman chasing after her dog fell 60 feet down a Mendocino cliff to her death Sunday evening. Her identity was not released. The dog, which had stopped halfway down the steep cliff, was later rescued, said Danny Hervilla, chief of the Mendocino Volunteer Fire Department.

Adventist Health has committed $58 million to build a new Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits, allowing plans to proceed after six years of fund raising. “I’m ecstatic,” said Margie Handley, who heads the hospital foundation’s board and whose family donated 33 acres south of town for the hospital.
