Editorial Changes At HumboldtOnline

by The Editors
A couple of editorial changes to our publication… First of all, although we have carried the Times-Standard’s line-up of web-published headlines verbatim up until now, we have made the decision to stop carrying T-S stories that fall into the journalistic category of “fluff”. These articles are generally no more than thinly veiled press releases, which are largely printed due to laziness on the part of writers or editors. They typically lack any news value whatsoever, and often just happen to be favorable towards a publisher’s advertisers. ‘Nuff said! We will also stop carrying T-S headlines that are “functionally obsolete”. By this, we mean that any article that has already been covered by another publication, and that adds no new information of any value. As many of our readers have already noticed, the Times-Standard is regularly “scooped” by many out-of-town publications on local news stories. There really is no sense in repeating “old news”, just because it is from a local newspaper, we feel. We hope these decisions will enhance your news reading experience
