Uncertain start to crab season [Daily Triplicate]
Pots are still in harbor with prices not set
Dark clouds aren’t the only cause of a unclear start to the crab season for local fishermen.
The official season for the North Coast began today, but pot-filled boats can still be seen moored at the harbor.
Fishermen are awaiting a buying price from processors before they begin bustling in hauls of crab.
“We haven’t set the gear yet because we haven’t been offered a substantial price,” said local fisherman T.D. Danielsen.
Pricing for the North Coast is typically dictated by what the Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission decides. Oregon law allows this organization to bring fishermen and processors together to negotiate a starting price for crab.
